Howard Lingard came in under the radar screen this year after
transferring in to Oviedo High School from Pine Ridge in Deltona, FL. He has
been a welcome addition to Oviedo this season as he has done it all on the
field. Lingard has lined up at fullback, tailback, outside linebacker, and wide
receiver this year, and has roughly 700 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns to go
along with 80 tackles and 3 sacks.
At 6-3 and 215 pounds Lingard has the frame to play many
positions. With an impressive 79 inch wingspan, Lingard is likely to begin at
outside linebacker for Florida.
"I committed to Florida right before the game last
weekend against Georgia," said Lingard. "I had scholarship offers from
Florida State, South Florida, and Central Florida to go along with the offer
from Florida. I chose Florida because I really like Coach Jerry Odum. He's been
recruiting me the hardest, and I think I'll fit in to the system well and be
able to helping out. I love the crowds at The Swamp too. My dream has always
been to get a scholarship to play football, and I'm excited that my dream has
come true."
Lingard is teammates with Gator commitment Clint McMillan, and
together they have led Oviedo to a 9-1 record on the season. They will learn
exactly who their playoff opponent will be after tonight's games.
