Jones Ready for Action
"Right now, everything has been kind of slow," Jones said. "There hasn't been anything going on now."
Jones is up to 6-3.5 and 220-pounds and says he runs a 4.6 40-yard dash. On the field, he's one of the most active linebackers from the class of 2009.
"I'm very vocal on the field," Jones said. "I play with a lot of heart and determination. I always play full speed between the tackles and sideline-to-sideline. I'm a leader on the field."
At Carver, Jones plays more of a middle/strongside linebacker position. They run a 5-2 defense, and as he heads into his senior season, his focus will be solely on defense after playing on the offensive side of the ball during his first two years of high school.
As for where he'll eventually land, Jones said he has no plans of making a decision until signing day, but he knows what he's looking for.
"I want to be somewhere that I can be comfortable for the next 4-5 years," he said. "Somewhere that I can get some playing time with a good coach and a good education."
He also talked about some of the schools in the mix.
Auburn – "It's a great school. They have great transition over there. They compete in the SEC every year. They are close to home, but I'm not concerned about being close to home."
Florida – "It's a great school. They have a chance to be there every year. It's a great coaching staff. They go to a big bowl game every year."
Texas – "It's a good school with great athletes. They have a good coaching staff. I haven't learned much about them because I haven't had a chance to get out there yet."
Southern Cal – "It's a great school with a good coaching staff and they compete every year."
Clemson – "Clemson is a good school. It's a small town, but I like the coaching staff and they compete."
Jones said he has developed a very strong relationship with Clemson assistant Billy Napier.
"They just keep it real with me," he said. "They tell me things that I'm going to have to do to get through college life. They tell me the things that I need to improve on from high school."
Jones reports a GPA of 2.8 and said he is thinking of majoring in Education.
