FSU Football Getting Messier

Bobby Bowden

Jimbo Fisher might want to sneak into the administrative offices at Florida State University and destroy the documents binding him to the Seminoles for the foreseeable future.

The Seminoles' painful off-season continued Wednesday with the word that starting offensive tackle Daron Rose is out for the 2008 season. Rose started all 11 regular season games last season at the left tackle position. He did not play in the bowl game for reasons we can only guess about, but 35 Seminoles were suspended from that game due to the academic scandal in Tallahassee.

Rose earned freshman All-American status and may well have been FSU's top blocker this fall. He reportedly will attend a junior college, perhaps in his native Tampa to try and regain eligibility for 2009.

The loss of Rose just adds to a disastrous time in the state capital (not even counting the last legislative session!) since the end of the last football season. FSU is still awaiting word on the status of dynamic playmaker Preston Parker who is facing a weapons charge. One of their best linebackers, Marcus Ball left the team. Additionally, about a dozen of those players who sat out the bowl game will also miss the first three games next fall.
