Hornsby Dismissed from Team

After allegedly charging $3,000 on a deceased girl's credit card, Florida Gator Jamar Hornsby has been dismissed from the team.

"He is not part of our program," Urban Meyer said in a statement.

Jamar Hornsby turned himself in to authorities on Friday after being accused of making charges on the credit cards of Ashley Slonina. Slonina was killed in a motorcycle accident last fall that also took the life of Gator walk-on Michael Guilford.

He was released on his own recognizance by the Alachua County Court after making his appearance on Friday morning. He has been given a daytime curfew, while he awaits his next hearing.

Hornsby had a promising spring after being limited to special teams last fall during his redshirt freshman season. He made strides up the depth chart at the safety position and spent of the spring drills with the second team safety group. He was making a name for himself after making a couple of loud hits, including a big hit on tight end Tate Casey during a Saturday scrimmage.

Hornsby came to Gainesville with lots of accolades. He was a five-star prospect and Scout.com's No. 3 rated safety from the class of 2006, helping Florida post the nation's top recruiting class.

He played his high school football at Jacksonville (FL) Sandalwood High School.
