GAME RECAP: Gators End Drought

The Florida Gators ended the 23 year winning drought to the Miami Hurricanes with a 26-3 win on Saturday night in The Swamp. A record crowd of 90,833 witnessed the Gator offense put on a fourth quarter show, scoring 17 points in the final 15 minutes.

1st Quarter

Florida 7, Miami 0

Drive: 5 plays, 35 yards, 1:44
Scoring Play: Tim Tebow 14-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Hernandez
Clock: 12:24
PAT: Jonathan Phillips kick
Drive Started: At the Miami 35 after Hurricane punter Matt Bosher botched a punt that went just 14 yards
Drive Summary:Tebow ran for 11 yards to pick up a 3rd-and-nine. Percy Harvin had his first carry of the season, an end around that went for nine yards just before Tebow hit Hernandez.

2nd Quarter

Florida 7, Miami 3

Drive: 16 plays, 74 yards, 8:42
Scoring Play: Bosher 50-yard field goal
Clock: 12:51
Drive Started: At the Miami 26 after a Chas Henry 50-yard punt
Drive Summary:Miami chewed up some clock and got on the board with an impressive drive. Quarterback Robert Marve picked up a fourth down conversion with an 8-yard run. The Canes hurt themselves with a false start penalty at the Gator 25.

Florida 9, Miami 3

Scoring Play: Jeff Demps blocked a Bosher punt from the end zone
Clock: 0:47
Drive Summary:A personal foul penalty on third down backed the Canes to their own 10-yard line, causing Bosher to punt from the end zone. The Gators went after it, and Demps got it, but Florida couldn’t cover it for a touchdown. It was the first safety for Florida since Oct. 7, 2006 against LSU.

4th Quarter

Florida 16, Miami 3

Drive: 12 plays, 86 yards, 5:50
Scoring Play: Harvin 2-yard touchdown run
Clock: 13:19
PAT: Phillips kick
Drive Started: At the Florida 14 after a Miami punt
Drive Summary:The Gator drive was kept alive on a tremendous catch by Carl Moore. The junior college transfer had to leap to make the grab as he was falling out of bounds. The play was ruled incomplete on the field, but after further review, it was ruled that the ground caused the ball to jar loose. After the Canes were called for pass interference in the end zone, Harvin scored on third down from the 2.

Florida 23, Miami 3

Drive: 5 plays, 95 yards, 1:34
Scoring Play: Tebow 19-yard touchdown pass to Murphy
Clock: 8:59
PAT: Phillips kick
Drive Started: At the Florida 5 after a Miami punt
Drive Summary:It didn’t take long for the Gators to put together their longest scoring drive of the season. Tebow completed 4-of-5, including two to Murphy on the five-play drive. It was helped with a 15-yard roughing the passer penalty called on Miami. Three plays on the drive went for 19 yards or more.

Florida 26, Miami 3

Drive: 4 plays, 5 yards, 1:31
Scoring Play: Phillips 29-yard field goal
Clock: 0:25
Drive Started: At the Miami 16 after Brandon James returned a punt XX yards
Drive Summary:The Gators tacked on an extra three points after Brandon James returned a punt 31 yards, setting up the Gators inside the 20-yard line. Phillips kicked his first field goal of the season with the 29-yarder.
