At every level of football the game is won or lost in the trenches, how many times have you heard that? The fact of the matter is often times it turns out to be true. That’s why college coaches around the country put a premium on the offensive line, enter David Yankey. Yankey recently returned home from a trip to the University of Florida with teammate defensive linemen Euclid Cummings.
David Yankey
is one of the top offensive linemen in the state of
Georgia
for the class of 2010. At 6-5 and 250-pounds he hasn’t come close to reaching his full physical maturity level. Number 74 for Centennial high school in Roswell (GA) Yankey benches 275, squats 550 and power cleans 250-pounds.
Heading into his first trip to Gainesville, Yankey told me last week his goal was to get a feel for what the game day atmosphere was like, mission accomplished.
“We arrived around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday with my mom, little brother, Euclid and met my head coach Jeff Measor down there," Yankey said. "Coach Measor gave us a tour around the campus and there was a lot of excitement and fun. Gainesville is a special place. It was crazy you can feel the expectations and all the tradition and during the game it was incredibly loud. All the other recruits seemed pretty excited for the game. I saw an overall dominating performance out of it, 56-6 speaks for itself.
Florida
was incredibly fast and dominated
South Carolina
the entire game. I think that was the most impressive part of the trip for me the sheer dominance of their performance.”
You may be asking yourself why Coach Measor would give the tour. He is an alumnus and was a GA under Coach Steve Spurrier. Yes, South Carolina has offered at this time as well as
Duke
. Yankey gets a lot of mail from Florida,
Clemson
, South Carolina,
Indiana
, Duke,
Iowa
and Georgia. He has visited South Carolina, Clemson,
Tennessee
and now Florida.
