Another Playmaker from the West Talks Gators

Kasen Williams

At 6-2 and 200-pounds, Kasen Williams is one of the most physically gifted wide receiver prospects in the class of 2011. Williams traveled from Sammamish (WA) where he plays wideout for Skyline High School to attend Friday Night Lights and talked about it with FightinGators.com.

"My first trip to Florida was for Friday Night Lights. It was great. The visit went beyond my expectations. I got in Thursday night, so Friday morning I met with the coaches, toured the campus and athletic facilities, met with academic advisors, and visited the business school. The athletic facilities were among the best I had seen, but the stadium blew me away ... 92,000 fans. All the coaches were cool. Meeting with Coach Meyer was a highlight of the trip, because he was so easy to talk to. Visiting the business school and meeting the advisors reinforced they are also about the academics and give you the support to be successful.

"Everyone I met was all about getting a good education and being a part of a great family (the Gator Nation). The energy and excitement around Football was amazing. There was a lot of pride in being the best in nation. That I had never seen before and it's hard to explain unless you see it for yourself.

"Friday Night Lights was fun and competitive. There were 50 of the top 150 recruits in the nation for 2010, which made it very competitive. It was also great to see and be coached by the coaches. I liked their energy."

Kasen Williams is coming off a huge sophomore season with 56 receptions for 939 yards for an average of 16.77 yards per reception and 13 touchdowns. He also added 49 tackles and three interceptions on the defensive side of the ball.

Williams was impressed with what he saw on and off the field in Gainesville and could see himself fitting in with the Gators.

"I see myself fitting in very well with the coaches and players because they have an open, positive and high energy atmosphere that's competitive with a winning attitude."

Even though Williams plays his high school football in the western part of the United State he has a close relationship with the Gators coaches because of a pre-existing relationship.

"I have a close relationship with Coach White, because I meet him originally in Washington and have continued to stay in contact. I really enjoyed getting to know Coach Meyer and the other coaches on my visit. They all seemed really cool and easy to talk to. It would be really cool and exciting to be a part of the family of Gator Nation. I have a friend from Skyline on the UF Women's Soccer Team and I have a cousin who lives in the area."

Williams knows he needs to improve before he gets to the next level.

"I believe I need to work on my routes. My strength and hands are my greatest assets."

Williams did not have a favorite team growing up but his favorite player was Reggie Wayne. He holds offers from Florida, UCLA, Stanford, Washington, California, LSU, Georgia Tech, BYU, Alabama, Boise State, Washington State and Tennessee. He has visited Florida, UCLA, Washington, California and Georgia Tech.
