One On One With Prather

Casey Prather gave Florida hoops fans some warmly welcomed good news this week with his commitment. Fightin' Gators caught up with the senior from Tennessee to talk about his commitment and other subjects.

Casey Prather isn't exactly a guy who goes around tooting his own horn. In fact, the 6-foot-5 wing from Jackson (Tenn.) North Side is quite humble and in no hurry to talk about himself. However, he did spend some time with Eric Bossi of Fightin' Gators talking about his recent commitment and a variety of other topics.

EB- First of all, congratulations. How does it feel to not have to worry about your recruitment anymore?

CP- "It feels great. It's a lot of pressure off me so that I can have a chance to focus on my senior season and getting a championship. It's as big as big a goal as you can have in high school basketball."

EB- At what point in your recruitment did you know that Florida was where you wanted to be and why?

CP- "Well it was kind of early, but I was playing it safe and wanted to give everybody an equal shot. Pretty much it was because of Coach Donoavan. He was a great basketball player and a coach. I liked the campus and being there. Before I took the visit I liked talking to coach Donovan and the other coaches. I felt comfortable and the visit kind of finalized it all for me."

EB- How important was it for you to develop a relationship with Billy Donovan and what type of relationship do you feel you have with him and the rest of the staff?

CP- "I believe that I've established a great relationship with all of them. The better acquainted I am with the head coach, the less false information I get. I felt that was very important and it's part of why I like Florida so much."

EB- What do you know about Patric Young and how do you feel about playing with him?

CP- "I saw Patric play at the NBA camp and I've talked to him quite a bit. I can't wait to play with him. I think it's going to be a lot of fun. He doesn't fear anything, he plays with a great amount of energy. Everybody calls him a baby Dwight Howard."

EB- Are there any other guys out there, whether they be in your class or beyond, that the Gators have been on that you would really like to play with? Or do you even worry about that kind of stuff?

CP-"I would like to play with Brandon Knight. I like the way he plays and he's a great scorer and point. I like a lot of people they are recruiting, but it's really a matter of who fits. I trust Billy Donovan."

EB- You have been described as an athletic slasher who can defend and rebound. Do you feel that's a fair characterization of your game?

CP- "I think it's pretty fair. But, I can also be a scorer who can do more than attack the rim. People get caught up in being a one dimensional player but I've been working on my three point game and ball handling and I feel like it's coming along real well. I've had to play the post a lot and didn't really get to play on the wing until the last couple of years with the Nashville Celtics."

EB- What part of your game is most ready for college? What part do you need to work on the most?

CP- "I think that my heart is ready for college. I think I can continue to work on my overall game. My body especially, I want to get bigger."

EB- Finally, now that we know all about Casey Prather on the floor and why you chose to be a Gator, let's get to know a little bit about you off the floor. What do you like to do in your down time? Do you have any hobbies that might surprise the average Fightin' Gators reader?

CP- "I don't know, I just like to have fun. I like to go to church. I like to dance a little bit. I can't tell you too much!"
