New Quarterback Visiting Florida

The Florida Gators have been looking everywhere for another quarterback in the class of 2010. Gone is Tim Tebow and in his place is junior John Brantley and freshmen Jordan Reed and Trey Burton. Another quarterback is always something the Gators have wanted and now they may have found him. Tyler Murphy of Wethersfield (CT) will visit Florida officially this weekend.
Tyler Murphy
is currently committed to
Temple
and brings quite a bit of tools at his disposal on his visit to Gainesville. Blessed with a strong and accurate arm and quick feet, Murphy has all the tools to be a real threat in the
Florida
Gator offense. At 6-2 and 190 pounds, Murphy has the size to compete in the SEC as well.
Florida quarterback coach Scott Loeffler visited with Murphy this week and the visit helped all but assure Murphy will take an official visit to Gainesville this weekend.
"Things went well," Murphy said of the in-home visit. "I'm very excited to come down and visit this weekend. I'm just looking forward to getting down there and meeting everyone. My dad will be the only one attending the trip with me."
Murphy ended his senior season with more than 30 touchdowns and totaled 1,100 rushing and 1,100 passing yards. At Syracuse he clocked his fastest time in the 40-yard dash with a 4.40 second mark.
Murphy talked a little bit about what he does best.
"I feel the best part of my game as a quarterback is throwing on the run. My throwing has improved a ton and I don't have to depend on my legs.”
Murphy will be in tow to see if he will garner a scholarship offer from the Gators. That hasn't quite been determined.
“They haven't offered me as a quarterback yet but they want me to come down for a visit,” he said of the Gators. “Coach Meyer told me things are going to happen fast and be ready. I am (ready), I am just waiting to see where things end up."
Murphy is a surprise visitor that has come somewhat out of the blue for the Gators in this class of 2010. Yet, it does show that the Gators will search near and far to find the prospects they want and need to complete their roster. In a strange set of circumstance, Murphy would be the third Connecticut player in four years to possibly ink with the Gators joining tight end
Aaron Hernandez
who is off to the NFL, and the previously mentioned
Jordan Reed
