Best All-Sports Year Ever for UF

This weekend guaranteed the Florida Gators will be able to celebrate the best All-Sports season in UF history. With the Men’s (2nd) and Women’s (3rd) Outdoor Track and Field teams performing superbly and the Baseball team advancing to the College World Series the Gators are assured of a school record 14 top 10 finishes this school year. Florida had never had more than 12 such finishes in the past.
The Gators’ All-Sports season is highlighted by a pair of NCAA Championships. The Men’s Indoor Track and Field Squad and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams both came home with NCAA titles. Those two finishes lead ten Gator teams that finished in the top five:
No. 1 ----- Men’s Indoor Track and Field, Women’s Swimming and Diving
No. 2 ----- Women’s Tennis, Men’s Outdoor Track and Field
No. 3 ----- Football, Women’s Outdoor Track and Field
No. 4 ----- Women’s Indoor Track and Field
No. 5 ----- Gymnastics, Men’s Swimming and Diving
And the Gators may not be quite finished. The Gator Baseball team needs just one win at the College World Series in order to claim another top five finish for the school.

The National Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) sponsors the “Director’s Cup”. The Cup is won by
Stanford
just about every year. In the latest standings as usual The Cardinal has a huge lead in the rankings with 1,395 points compared to No.2
Ohio State
with 1,000.5.
Florida
(919) was No.6 in the last standings, but since then the Gators have posted high NCAA finishes in Men’s Golf (11th) and Softball (t-5th) as well as Men’s (2nd) and Women’s (3rd) Outdoor Track and Field. Those finishes will be calculated into the next scoring update which comes out on June 23. The Final standings are released after the CWS on July 1.
The Gators could match their highest overall finish if all goes well. The Gators finished 2nd nationally in the 1997-98 school year. This is the 27th year for the All Sports competition and Florida is the only school that has finished in the top ten every year.
The All-Sports standings are based on your ten highest finishes in men’s sports and your 10 highest in women’s sports. Stanford fields 37 teams including rowing, sailing and water polo among others. Florida fields 20.
