Kion Williams is a Knight
Posted Jun 28, 2010
Interlachen High School is home to one of the more dynamic players in the state of Florida in Kion Williams. This week, Williams gave his verbal pledge to play football to the University of Central Florida. Just last month, Williams ran for 220 yards on only eight carries in an end of spring scrimmage with his new team, he looks to do much of the same for the Knights.
Sean Beckton recruits Interlachen for
and has been on
hard since the spring.
“I've been talking to Coach Beckton a lot and he wanted me to come see his school and I went to the spring scrimmage,” Williams said. “He told me I was one of the top prospects at the position and told me they really needed help in the backfield. They are on me the most and I talk to them the most.”
Immediate playing time with the Knights seems to be in store for Williams according to head coach George O'Leary.
“I was talking to Coach O'Leary and he said that in my freshman year I should get a lot of playing time,” Williams said. “If I work hard enough I should be able to start my freshman year. Coach O'Leary told me that I am going to have to work hard, but he was very excited about me committing.”
You won't find Kion Williams shying away from expectations, he is expecting a lot from himself like surpassing UCF's all time leading rusher, a guy that has the second most yards in one season (2567 yards) for the highest level of college football. On top of that, he believes he is a strong leader and not afraid to start that right away.
“I want to have some big goals to accomplish and I want to break Kevin Smith's records,” Williams said of the Knights all-time leading rusher. “You can't find too many freshmen that are leaders, but when (Coach Beckton) saw me at practice he thought I was a big time leader. He told me when I show up he wants me to be a big leader.”
Williams signed off with a note to Knights' fans.
“For all the Central Florida fans, you guys can expect to see a very exciting football player, someone better than Kevin Smith,” he said.
