Dallas Baker was the star of the day with stellar statistics to prove it. He snagged 6 passes for a total of 134 yards and three touchdowns. His longest of the day was for 48 yards. Baker was clearly in his element today, outjumping and out-hustling defenders to catch Leak's passes and yet he feels he has more work to do!
On his performance…
“It was ok. Sitting back watching the game you see me make a lot of catches and scoring, but from the coaching stance I still got a lot of stuff to work on. I was ok with my day, but I wasn’t that happy either.”
On the offense…
“Being a receiver is fun because every other play is a pass. It seems like we just come out and throw it.”
Dallas Baker hauls this one in mid-air and nearly makes it into the end-zone.
On getting it going when it counts…
“That’s what I’ve been thinking about the whole time. Transferring it over to the season. I’m sick of just having good spring games and I want to do it in the season. Like Coach Meyer said, just working hard over the summer, going out and catching with Chris [Leak] and working hard in the weight room.”
On his slow move up the depth chart…
“I think it has to do with confidence and stepping up and being a leader. With this coaching staff, not to downgrade the last coaching staff, but these guys make you want to become leaders. I just want to step up and make plays.”
On the crowd…
“I was joking around with Chad [Jackson] at the beginning of the game and it was different. When I woke up this morning I went to McDonald’s to get breakfast and I saw people tailgating and everything, I felt like I was supposed to be at the hotel. It felt like a game and it was a big difference.”
Baker scores from 48 yards on this play, showcasing his speed.
On the players on the sideline…
“Two or three came in the locker room, but once we got out there it felt like it was a class room. We wanted to step up and show those guys that we’re trying to get it back the way it used to be--winning a lot of ball games. Taylor [Jacobs] came in the locker room and Andre told me Reche [Caldwell] was here too, but I didn’t get a chance to see him. We lost a lot of ball games the past couple years and we’re trying to get it back the way it was.”
Esteban’s Take: Dallas once again continues to get all the spring attention and deservedly so. At halftime alone he had 6 catches for 134 yards and 3 TD’s, but more importantly, displayed a good ability to gain yards after the catch. For a long time I’ve felt that confidence is an issue for the talented wide receiver, and if there is one staff that is able to instill that leadership and confidence in him, it will be Urban Meyer’s.
