Gators Face Troy in Game Trey

With two wins in the bank the Gator Basketball Team plays its third game in six days tonight when they host Troy in the O’Connell Center. Troy is definitely a step up competition wise with a four starters back from a team that won 19 games last year and posted a 14-4 record in the Sun Belt Conference.   Full Story

First-year starters Kenny Boynton and Vernon Macklin had 22 and 15 points, respectively, and junior Chandler Parsons registered a double-double off the bench with a 15-point, 12-rebound effort as the Florida Gators improved to 2-0 on the season with a 69-49 win over visiting Georgia Southern before a crowd of 10,006 at the O'Connell Center Wednesday night.   Full Story

Billy Donovan’s 14th season with the Gator Basketball team gets underway Sunday at 4:00 when the Gators host the Stetson Hatters in their season opener. Florida enters this season looking to put an end to a two-year absence from the NCAA Tournament. If you thought the Gators’ first exhibition game against St. Leo was easy, wait till you see tonight’s “contest”. Florida will face Webber International in a 40 minute outing that amounts to organized exercise. Webber has no player taller than 6-5, while Florida if it wanted to could put an entire unit on the floor at that height or taller.   Full Story

Florida junior basketball wing man Chandler Parsons likes his new role with the Gator team, getting some time at the 2, 3, and 4 spots. The role allows him to use his length against guys that are going to be smaller than him most of the night and allows him to play on the wing more often than not where he isn't matched up against stronger players.   Full Story

It wasn't the smoothest opening day for Vernon Macklin, but definitely something he can build on. Vernon Macklin will be relied on a lot this year for the Florida Gator basketball team and he knows he needs to improve to make the emphasis on the team that some are expecting. Monday night provided a first look at head coach Billy Donovan's 2009-10 Florida Gator basketball team, and although the opposing St. Leo Lions were clearly outmanned in the exhibition contest, the Gators were nonetheless impressive.   Full Story

BIRMINGHAM - SEC Basketball Media Day began with the conference's three new head coaches talking with the press Thursday morning. Kentucky's John Calipari has instantly become the centerpiece of all basketball discussions in the conference with his remarkable early recruiting success, but Alabama's Anthony Grant and Georgia's Mark Fox come with impressive achievements on their resumes as well.   Full Story

Last year, it was all about Nick Calathes. With his departure to professional basketball, the Florida Gators will now look to Erving Walker to run the point guard position.The 5-8 sophomore will be making the transition back to the position his had played his entire life up until last season when he played off the ball because Calathes ran the offense.   Full Story

In a somewhat veteran team that finished 25-11 last year, the Gators will only be without two players that played a lot last year. The SEC has finally released the full basketball schedule for this year, and Florida appears to have gotten a fairly good draw. The Gators will only play back-to-back SEC road games once over the course of the season, and unlike the previous year the anticipated tougher matchups are better spread out across the full 16 games of conference play.   Full Story

Four years ago Gator fan boards like this were inundated with people almost dreading the 2005-06 season. You see it was clear the Gator program had hit the wall, and while Billy Donovan had taken Florida to seven straight NCAA Tournaments the fact is the team had won only three games in the previous five Big Dances.
