First-year starters Kenny Boynton and Vernon Macklin had 22 and 15 points, respectively, and junior Chandler Parsons registered a double-double off the bench with a 15-point, 12-rebound effort as the Florida Gators improved to 2-0 on the season with a 69-49 win over visiting Georgia Southern before a crowd of 10,006 at the O'Connell Center Wednesday night. Billy Donovan’s Gator basketball team will play its second game of the season Wednesday night when Georgia Southern comes to town. The Gators won a shootout with the Eagles 88-81 in the O’Connell Center last season.

If you thought the Gators’ first exhibition game against St. Leo was easy, wait till you see tonight’s “contest”. Florida will face Webber International in a 40 minute outing that amounts to organized exercise. Webber has no player taller than 6-5, while Florida if it wanted to could put an entire unit on the floor at that height or taller. Full Story

Florida junior basketball wing man Chandler Parsons likes his new role with the Gator team, getting some time at the 2, 3, and 4 spots. The role allows him to use his length against guys that are going to be smaller than him most of the night and allows him to play on the wing more often than not where he isn't matched up against stronger players. In a somewhat veteran team that finished 25-11 last year, the Gators will only be without two players that played a lot last year. Four years ago Gator fan boards like this were inundated with people almost dreading the 2005-06 season. You see it was clear the Gator program had hit the wall, and while Billy Donovan had taken Florida to seven straight NCAA Tournaments the fact is the team had won only three games in the previous five Big Dances.
