Atkins is a big athlete with big potential on either side of the ball. His reputation at Mainland was built his sophomore and junior years as a cover-corner, but he will emerge his senior year at running back now that Vince Wilson has graduated. Named Second Team All-State "utility" player as a junior. Through nine games as a senior he had seven interceptions (three returned for TDs) and two fumble recoveries (one returned for a TD). Atkins also rushed for 750 yards and four touchdowns.
