Notebook: Ivie excelling with change

After seeing Joey Ivie get his weight up to 290 pounds this offseason, the Florida coaches thought it would make sense to slide him inside. He got most of his reps at defensive end last season, but they wanted to use him as depth at defensive tackle.

Holland Talks Top Six

Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian class of 2015 DE/OLB/WR Jeff Holland is considered one of top prospects in the state of Florida. The 6-foot-3 and 230-pound senior says that he currently has a top six and knows where he will take four of his official visits this fall and winter.

Florida went through its first scrimmage of fall camp earlier than the coaches elected to do it. They felt like this was the best time to get the players out on the field in a scrimmage environment and see how they respond.

OT Howard On Offers; Improvement

Green Cove Springs (Fla.) Clay High School class of 2015 offensive tackle prospect Michael Howard has offers from programs in the SEC and PAC-12 heading into his senior year. The 6-foot-6 and 250-pound made unofficial visits to four in-state programs this past off-season.

The Gators were down to two scholarship running backs on Monday because of injury. That forced most of the offense to be focused on the passing game. Florida also worked with some different units on the offensive line.

The Florida offense struggled throughout Monday’s practice, but when it did hit big plays, they came through the air. The Gators took advantage of the young cornerbacks’ aggression to get yardage after the catch.
