Elam named first team AP All-American

Florida safety Matt Elam capped off a strong season by being named a first team AP All-American. The Gators also placed punter Kyle Christy, defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd and kicker Caleb Sturgis on the third team.

Matt Elam finished the season second on the team with 65 tackles with 10 of those coming for a loss. The junior had four interceptions with 73 return yards. He also added five pass breakups and one forced fumble. Elam was able to make a bigger impact playing closer to the line of scrimmage.

Elam's honor was the first time a Florida defensive back earned first team AP All-American honors since Joe Haden did in 2009.

Sharrif Floyd was fifth on the team with 41 tackles and led the team with 11 tackles for a loss. He added one sack for 16 yards and recorded six quarterback hurries. Floyd also forced a fumble and blocked a kick.

Floyd is the first Florida defensive lineman to be recognized by the AP since Alex Brown in 2001.

The Florida special teams duo was honored on the third team AP All-American. Punter Kyle Christy and kicker Caleb Sturgis were finalists for the Ray Guy Award and Lou Groza Award, respectively.
