Gators slow FAU in important win

Tuesday wasn't a typical midweek game. Florida Atlantic brought a 28-19 record and a top-60 RPI to Gainesville in what was billed to be a bigger midweek challenge for the Gators than usual. That's why the Gators sent one of their better starters to the mound in sophomore left-hander Bobby Poyner, who went six innings while the Florida pitching staff combined to throw a one-hitter in a 7-1 win.

The only hit for Florida Atlantic came on a two-out RBI single by Nathan Pittman in the third inning, giving the Owls an early lead. It was the only hit the Florida pitching staff -- a combined effort from Bobby Poyner, Danny Young, Ryan Harris and Johnny Magliozzi -- gave up on the night.
