Francis picks Florida

Florida picked up their second pledge in the 2014 class on Thursday. Brandone Francis, of Jacksonville (Fla.) Arlington Country Day, will play his college basketball in Gainesville.

Brandone Francis is off the board and headed to Florida.

A native of the Dominican Republic, Francis was strongly considering Florida and Louisville. On Wednesday, Louisville scored a verbal pledge from Jaquan Lyle. Just a day later, Francis opted for the Gators.

"I think that's a great fit for me," Francis told "I've watched Florida play since I was a kid. It's just a dream come true."

To go with interest from Louisville, Francis also entertained interest from Indiana, Florida State, Washington, Louisville, Illinois, Cincinnati and West Virginia.

"I want to play for a great coach," Francis said. "Billy Donovan is one of the greatest. I like the way they play with pick and rolls and they like to play three guards. I've had a chance to watch them play this year past. I really like their system.

"It's a great opportunity," he added. "I think it's a great fit for me. I just love the campus. I'm just happy man. It's a dream come true."

Francis, who is regarded as the No. 45 overall recruit, put together a strong spring and earned an offer from Florida following the April evaluation periods. He was named the MVP of the adidas Exclusive Run in late April after leading Florida Elite to the championship.

At 6-foot-4, Francis is a big, skilled guard that can play a handful of positions. His best attribute is his ability to pass, but he's also capable of making shots from both mid-range and three.

Francis is the second top 50 prospect in the 2014 class to committ to Florida. He joins No. 39 overall recruit Chris Chiozza to make up the Gators current 2014 recruiting class. Recommended Stories
