The Opening: GBW Day 2 Recruiting Notebook

Montae Nicholson

Several recruiting notes came out of day two's events at The Opening in Oregon. Is Richard Yeargin still thinking about the Wolverines? Does Minkah Fitzpatrick plan to visit Ann Arbor? Anything new with Andrew Williams? Answer to those questions and more inside.

BEAVERTON, Ore.—In the sweltering heat for the second straight day, competition with pads on and without was fierce out at the Nike headquarters Tuesday.

Chatting with several top Michigan targets, as well as an emerging, nationally coveted underclassman, GoBlueWolverine captured several recruiting tidbits throughout the day. Look for full interviews and features on each in the days to come, but for now, pertinent notes are below:

2014 DE Andrew Williams—If there was any doubt about the sincere interest Williams has in the Wolverines, that can be put to rest as the Georgia native plans to be in Ann Arbor for an unofficial visit on July 19, he confirmed to GoBlueWolverine Tuesday.

2014 CB Jalen Tabor—Tabor said that he believes recent Michigan wide receiver commitment Freddy Canteen is a four-star talent and that the analysts are sleeping on him. Tabor, who plays against him quite a bit, says Canteen is a speed guy, quick guy that could definitely play with all of the players in attendance at The Opening, no problem.

2014 S Montae Nicholson—Nicholson says he does plan on making it to the barbecue at the big house but that it does depend on his track schedule. Meanwhile, his mother confirmed that his official visit to Michigan is set for under the lights, part two, against Notre Dame in September. His biggest concern, outside of academics, is depth chart. Nicholson will compare engineering schools as well as the number of safeties on each roster.

2014 LB Richard Yeargin—Another confirmation of interest from one of the top guys left on the board in the country, Yeargin has not ceased contact with the Wolverines and went as far as to say that he would definitely take an official visit to Ann Arbor this fall. Yeargin is really enjoying getting to know new linebacker coach Roy Manning and could not stop smiling discussing their relationship. Yeargin appears big enough to eventually stick his hand in the ground at the next level, but is being recruiting as a SAM linebacker at Michigan.

2015 CB Minkah Fitzpatrick—Fitzpatrick has definitely been hearing from 2014 Michigan commitment Jabrill Peppers and let’s just say the message is being heard. Insisting that he’s interested in Michigan despite the recruiting pitch from Peppers, Fitzpatrick does plan to make it out to see the Wolverines either this fall or after his season as part of a Midwest tour. SEC interest is real for Fitzpatrick but as he told GoBlueWolverine, if Peppers likes it, he must like it too.
