Cronkrite starts strong; keeping options open

The Miami running back and his team get started strong all the way up in Jacksonville.

The score read 55-0 at the end of the game, but the Warriors of Miami Westminster Christian could have listed the score they wanted to have in the game over Jacksonville’s Harvest Community School. The Warriors drove six hours north and it was worth it to get a strong season off to a good start.

Running back Jordan Cronkrite wasted little time getting things started scoring twice in the first quarter from 10 and three yards. He took most of the second half off.

“It was a great time for me and my teammates to create an opportunity for the younger guys to get in the game and show what they can do early in the season,” he said of the first regular season game on the schedule. “It showed all of our hard work and dedication in the offseason and it all showed up on the field.”

With Champagnat up next on the schedule, Cronkrite has some lofty goals to meet this season. Although the scores better be a little closer so he can play more if he is going to meet some of the goals.

“My main goal is to win the state championship and also to run for 2,000 yards,” he said. Cronkrite is currently committed to the University of Miami, but one school pretty close to where he played Friday night has been on him pretty hard lately.

“I made that decision with my family early on in the year,” Cronkrite said of his commitment to the Hurricanes. “I am still committed right now and keeping my options open with Florida. I am talking with the (Gator) coaches and they are trying to get me to a game as soon as possible. It just depends on my schedule (when I can get there), because we don’t have any bye weeks. We will have to see.”

He says he likes the Hurricanes because, “(the school) is close to home and I always watched them growing up.”

But, the Gators have made an impression and there are things he has considered with the school in Gainesville as well.

“I watched them as well,” he said. “I know a couple of players there and a lot of people that go there. I know Brandon Powell, Quincy Wilson and Hunter Boyette (former quarterback) who doesn’t play football but goes to school there.”

Cronkrite also says that West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Notre Dame are schools he is keeping an open mind toward.

He does know what he is looking for when he makes a final decision.

“What feels right for me in the end, and where I can get the best education,” he said. “That is first before football.”
